Thank you for taking the time to go through this journey with me. Ever since I was a kid, I have been drawn to the God of the Bible. I was glued to the TV whenever a Bible movie came on. Picture The Ten Commandments and any Jesus movie in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Over time, I became familiar with certain people in the Bible like Noah, David, Daniel, or Moses. Still, I didn’t understand where they were in history. I also didn’t realize that they were really one big family. After reading and studying over the last couple of decades, I have developed a good understanding. I now have a clear foundation on the flow of the Bible and where the people fit.
The Bible does two things for me. It gives me my heritage and it teaches me how to live. The Bible is one of the main ways God communicates with me. It reveals His character to me. It shows me His will for my life.
Before you start studying or reading God’s Word, consider praying these verses of scripture.
Pray when beginning to read or study scripture:
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Psalm 119:18
Then expect God to answer:
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:45
I pray God meets with you on a personal level as you set aside time to be with Him in His Word. He has blown my mind and cut straight to my heart so many times over the years. Sometimes my study is thought-provoking and I learn something new. Sometimes the scriptures seem to jump off the page and into my heart as if God spoke directly to me. Those are the moments I live for. May you experience them as well.
When you get to the end of the Old Testament section, there will be a quiz. Here is the answer key. Try to answer as many as you can on your own from memory. Then look through your homework if you can’t remember the answer. Use this key as a last resort:
